The Fondazione Prada Film Fund, created by Miuccia Prada and Patrizio Bertelli, strengthens the institution’s relationship with cinema. Since its establishment in 1993, the Foundation has run the Cinema Godard in Milan and developed projects in architecture, photography and visual arts.
The fund was presented on 1 September at the 82nd edition of the Biennale di Venezia. Its immediate goal is to finance independent films, while in the long term it aims to foster contemporary artistic and cultural research.
The selection of projects will be carried out by an international committee of professionals. The model operates like a festival, combining financial support with visibility and seeking to attract new funding opportunities. Venice was chosen as the launch venue due to the Foundation’s ties with the city, where it maintains its headquarters at Ca’ Corner della Regina and a longstanding relationship with the festival.
Since its beginnings, Fondazione Prada has regarded cinema as a cultural laboratory. With this fund it is committing to a stable model that does not impose themes, but supports works with artistic value and new perspectives. The Fondazione Prada Film Fund focuses on cinema with a lasting vocation, opening space for reflection and highlighting the complexity of the present.
