A project that transcends the press to become a three-dimensional experience: collection, campaign and monumental art.
Inspired by anatomy and the way the body moves through space, the launch of “Anatomic Denim” continues G-STAR‘s innovative spirit since it revolutionised the industry with the iconic Elwood in 1996.
The vision of Jordan Hemingway—cult photographer and filmmaker, regular collaborator with Gucci, Prada and Maison Margiela—shapes a visceral, almost raw campaign featuring a gymnast, a dancer, a cyclist and an acrobat. No accessories, no set design, no distractions. Just the body in motion and denim designed to accompany every movement.
Anatomic Denim is presented as a natural evolution of the brand’s obsession with 3D construction and cutting. Three pieces encapsulate the essence of the project:
- The Contor: a futuristic silhouette with sculpted, architectural lines.
- The Kitoh: stitching that evokes muscle fibres and accentuates the body’s dynamics.
- Elwood 2025: a reinterpretation of the classic that started it all, now with a more precise anatomical fit.
‘We don’t just create clothing for the body: we design it with its shape and movement in mind. By combining our 3D construction with artistry and craftsmanship, we bring to life raw, expressive denim that is authentically G-STAR,’ says Gwenda van Vliet, Chief Brand Officer at G-STAR.
The project reaches its climax with The Denim Gorilla, a 3.5-metre sculpture created in collaboration with Darwin, Sinke & van Tongeren. Renowned for their mastery of artistic taxidermy, the artists take their anatomical exploration to another level here. The piece, constructed entirely from denim, was presented at Amsterdam Fashion Week and CIFF Copenhagen, and is currently on display at the Art Zoo Museum.
