Dario Vitale’s debut at the helm of Versace in Milan was more than just the presentation of the SS26 collection. It also marked an unexpected move: the Italian maison’s first collaboration with a sneaker brand. The chosen partner was Onitsuka Tiger, and together they developed two silhouettes showcased on the runway, immediately reflecting Vitale’s contemporary vision.
On one hand, the TAI-CHI model is reinvented as a low-profile sneaker. It is crafted with Italian materials at Onitsuka’s factory in Sanin Tottori. Additionally, the Tiger Stripes are combined with the iconic Medusa, while a vintage treatment on the upper gives it a timeless feel. In this way, Japanese precision merges with Italian drama in a single design.
On the other hand, the second piece is a collaborative loafer that brings sneaker codes into formal footwear. This hybrid reflects the trend of translating urban culture into the luxury world, while offering a sophisticated and modern option at the same time.
Beyond the models themselves, Vitale aims for a Versace that engages new audiences without abandoning its heritage. Indeed, the combination of craftsmanship and hybrid language forms a clear statement of intent from his first collection.
The Versace x Onitsuka Tiger collaboration will arrive next spring via Versace and will be more than just a launch; it represents the first step of a new era for the Italian house.
