Jason Bateman will direct The Partner, starring British actor Tom Holland. The film adapts John Grisham’s legal thriller and combines the tension of the courtroom genre with a contemporary look at ambition and morality.

Holland plays Patrick Lanigan, a young lawyer who fakes his own death and escapes with 90 million dollars belonging to a corrupt client. The story unfolds as a pursuit shaped by power, money and the search for redemption.

Bateman, known for Ozark, brings a restrained and precise visual style. His approach transforms the legal narrative into a reflection on deceit and survival, exploring the fine line between what is ethical and what is merely convenient.

With a screenplay by Graham Moore (The Imitation Game), The Partner revives the spirit of the classic thriller through a modern lens. More than a legal drama, it offers a meditation on identity and control as expressions of power.

With no release date yet confirmed, the film — directed by Bateman and starring Holland — promises a balance of composure and visual elegance that redefines the legal thriller for a new generation.
