Duane Michals directs a short film where dreams become tangible.

The Australian actor once again does what he does best: mesmerise the camera. Embodying contemporary masculinity and the new era of Bottega Veneta as a global ambassador, Elordi stars in the House’s latest campaign — a project that transcends traditional advertising to become a true audiovisual work.

Titled What Are Dreams?, the piece is a short film and series of portraits captured by Duane Michals, one of the living legends of conceptual photography. The story unfolds in an intimate setting — Michals’ own home in New York. There, among shadows, antique furniture, and corners steeped in memory, Jacob moves as if trapped in someone else’s dream. Everything is shot in elegant black and white, stripping away distractions to reveal the essence: him, the camera, and the inexplicable.

Inspired by the Surrealist movement —Magritte, De Chirico, and the universe of the subconscious— the project explores the fine line between reality and dream. Elordi recites Michals’ eponymous poem —included in his book Questions Without Answers— as he drifts through scenes that feel like fragments of a reverie. “I’ve always been interested in the realm of the invisible,” explains the photographer. “Jacob understood exactly the magic and mystery I was seeking.”

More than a campaign, What Are Dreams? starring Jacob Elordi is a meeting between two creative generations and a tribute to the timeless vision of Bottega Veneta.
