Pop sensation Sabrina Carpenter continues to expand her presence in the entertainment industry. Universal Pictures has confirmed that the singer and actress will star in a new musical adaptation inspired by Alice in Wonderland. She will also join the production team. This marks her first leading role in a major Hollywood studio film.
The project represents an important step in her transition to film. Carpenter pitched the idea to Universal over a year ago, and her proposal attracted a high-profile creative team. The film will be written and directed by Lorene Scafaria, known for Hustlers and her work on Succession. Producer Marc Platt, responsible for La La Land and Wicked, will also join the production.
The film aims to move away from the more traditional versions of Lewis Carroll’s classic. It will offer a contemporary take on Alice’s journey and her surreal world. Carpenter’s direct involvement ensures that the musical will reflect her creative vision.
Production is set to begin soon. All signs point to this musical becoming one of Universal’s most significant releases in the coming years, at a time when the genre is enjoying a renewed moment on the big screen.
