Awards season has officially begun in Los Angeles with the 16th edition of the 2025 Governors Awards, held on 16 November at the Ray Dolby Ballroom. Although it may be a more understated event than the Oscars, the red carpet once again proved why this ceremony — known as the Honorary Oscars — remains a favourite within the industry: maximum elegance, fashion with intention, and a parade of stars celebrating careers that have shaped cinema.
This year, the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award went to Dolly Parton, while the Honorary Oscars were presented to Tom Cruise, Debbie Allen and Wynn Thomas. But, as always, the parallel conversation focused on the looks that dominated the night.
This year’s edition confirmed several stars as true style references. Anya Taylor-Joy dazzled in an ethereal design by Maison Margiela Couture. In turn, Cynthia Erivo reaffirmed her status as a contemporary icon in Givenchy. Likewise, Jacob Elordi stood out in a perfectly tailored classic suit. Meanwhile, Mia Goth shone in her Christian Dior ensemble, and Isabela Merced opted for a striking black look by Dilara Findikoglu. Hailee Steinfeld, for her part, impressed in a flowing Stephane Rolland design.
Each appearance demonstrated that the 2025 Governors Awards celebrate not only cinematic careers, but also the narrative power of fashion.
