Apple Music has once again turned its attention to one of the most influential creators of the past decade, Tyler, the Creator. On Thursday, 20 November, the platform confirmed that the artist tops its annual list as “Artist of the Year 2025”, an accolade that recognises not only his musical impact but also his expansion into cinema and his ongoing cultural and aesthetic influence.
Zane Lowe, Apple Music’s Global Creative Director, put it plainly: Tyler has once again proven that his vision knows no bounds. His ability to take risks and transform his visual and sonic work has indisputably shaped this year.
The recognition arrives after an especially prolific period. In just eight months, Tyler followed his album Chromakopia (2024) with Don’t Tap the Glass, a project that reached number one and was conceived and recorded while the artist travelled the world on tour for his previous record. Standout tracks include “Big Poe”, produced alongside Pharrell Williams, as well as “Ring, Ring, Ring” and “Sugar on My Tongue”, all of which appeared on the Hot 100 charts.
Both albums have placed Tyler at the centre of the upcoming Grammy Awards. As a result, he has received five nominations in total. Chromakopia is up for Album of the Year and Best Rap Album, while Don’t Tap the Glass is nominated for Best Alternative Music Album.
Furthermore, according to Apple Music, listeners worldwide streamed his music for more than 4.5 billion minutes between November 2024 and October 2025. This marks his best year on the platform. At the same time, Tyler has headlined several major festivals, including Governors Ball, Lollapalooza, Outside Lands and Osheaga. He is also finalising preparations for the new edition of Camp Flog Gnaw, which takes place this weekend.
Additionally, the artist’s expansion is moving into cinema. Next month, he will make his feature film acting debut in Marty Supreme, the new Josh Safdie film starring Timothée Chalamet.
