Fun on the outside, serious on the inside. And easy on the pocket: this watch, inspired by the world of Harry Potter, retails for €128,700. It was manufactured by Swiss watchmaker Kross Studio, which already ventured into the fictional worlds of Game of Thrones and its spin-off, House of the Dragon, in 2023 with steel models (though not Valyrian steel) and dragon egg-shaped sculptures. It also drew inspiration from Batman to launch a series of watches.
Marco Tedeschi, who founded Kross Studio in 2020, is now repeating the formula by bringing the world of British author J.K. Rowling‘s fantasy novels to fine watchmaking, in collaboration with Warner Bros.’ consumer products division. In this case, the reference is not too obvious: Tedeschi has focused on Quidditch, the fictional sport played by characters in the magical world of Harry Potter, in which the aim is to catch a golden ball (snitch) while riding a broomstick.
Four young wizards, one from each house at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry (Harry Potter for Gryffindor, Cho Chang for Ravenclaw, Cedric Diggory for Hufflepuff and Draco Malfoy for Slytherin), surround the floating central tourbillon found in all Kross Studio watches, completing one rotation every minute. Each of them measures 2.79 mm high and 6.09 mm long, and they are made of engraved and hand-painted gold.
The piece, measuring 42 mm in diameter, is equipped with a manual winding movement offering a generous power reserve of 120 hours. The tourbillon, together with its balance wheel and fixed seconds wheel, is raised above the movement and hands, dominating the barrel, which occupies almost the entire surface of the mechanism.
The set comes as a collector’s item in the form of a music box made by Reuge, which plays a well-known melody from the films in the series: “Hedwig’s Theme”. Limited to 10 units, it promises to bring all the magic of Harry Potter to its owner.
