Rick Owens has confirmed that it will no longer use animal fur in any of its future collections or products. The brand announced the decision on 15 December, following a recent pressure campaign by organisations advocating for animal rights.
The statement appeared in the Eco-Aware section of the brand’s official website. It explains that over the past decade the company gradually reduced its use of fur until production ceased entirely. The message is clear: the brand will not return to working with these materials. As an immediate result, Rick Owens removed a mink bag that was still available from its online store.
A five-day protest organised by the Coalition to Abolish the Fur Trade (CAFT) acted as the trigger for the change. The campaign began on 10 December and targeted the brand over its historical use of animal fur in clothing and footwear. Activists staged demonstrations at several locations linked to the brand.
These included the London venue hosting the Rust Never Sleeps exhibition by Rick Owens Furniture, as well as Rick Owens stores in Los Angeles and New York.
With this move, Owenscorp joins a growing trend within the fashion industry. In recent weeks, both Condé Nast and the Council of Fashion Designers of America have announced similar policies. These actions reinforce a broader structural shift towards more ethical and responsible practices across the sector.
