The futuristic vision of Issey Miyake moves forward once again. Miyake Design Studio (MDS) has teamed up with ASICS to introduce “Issey Miyake Foot”, a new footwear project set to launch worldwide in January 2026. The partnership blends the Japanese house’s experimental DNA with the technical innovation of one of the leading names in running.
Staying true to the brand’s legacy, the collaboration places technology, research and aesthetics at the heart of the design. For years, Issey Miyake has explored the link between fashion and functionality — as shown by its recent collaboration with Apple — and now that approach is being brought into the world of footwear.
Moreover, together with ASICS, the project focuses on the human foot itself. The idea is to rethink the shoe as a tool capable of subtly improving everyday life.
A new take on the ASICS Stripes
The first model is the HYPER TAPING. It is an evolution of the classic ASICS Stripes system. Originally created to balance visual identity, support and fit, these lines now serve as the starting point for MDS’s “taping” concept.
In this way, the approach seeks to stabilise the body through form. In this version, the taping becomes a strong graphic element that wraps around the foot and enhances the design.
Technical function with refined aesthetics
The model features a wrestling-inspired outsole and a redesigned insole for everyday wear. As a result, it combines technical performance with a clean, refined look.
The outcome is a silhouette that brings together function and style. In addition, the more playful colour palette gives it a retro feel that adds character to the overall design.
With a balance between sporty and chic, “Issey Miyake Foot” is shaping up to be one of the most interesting releases of early 2026. The sneaker will be available globally in January and can be found on the official Issey Miyake and ASICS websites.
