A historic box office record.

Zoe Saldaña’s career has just reached a historic milestone. She has become the performer with the highest total box office earnings in cinema history. In large part, this came from Avatar: Fire and Ash, which has passed $1.23 billion since its release in December.

Moreover, the Avatar saga has played a central role in this achievement. The films in the franchise have earned nearly $5.6 billion worldwide. As a result, Saldaña has moved ahead of major figures in modern commercial cinema such as Scarlett Johansson and Samuel L. Jackson, with whom she previously shared the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

At the same time, her filmography includes several of the most successful titles ever made. She appeared in Avatar and Avatar: The Way of Water, two of the highest-grossing films of all time. In addition, she was part of Avengers: Endgame and Avengers: Infinity War. Because of this, she became the first actress to appear in four films that each earned more than $2 billion.

Beyond Avatar and Marvel

However, Saldaña’s success is not limited to these franchises. As Nyota Uhura in Star Trek, she also took part in a series that earned more than $1 billion worldwide. By then, in 2024, the films she had appeared in had already generated over $14 billion globally.

Meanwhile, her box office success was matched by critical recognition. In 2025, she won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for Emilia Pérez. At the same time, in Avatar: Fire and Ash she returns as Neytiri and, looking ahead, her involvement is confirmed for future instalments scheduled for 2029 and 2031.

The Oscars are set to move to YouTube in 2029.
