Alaïa ventures into denim

In Pieter Mulier’s vision, everyday objects become objects of worship.

The brand is entering a new phase as it ventures into denim for the first time with a collection of jeans, and to mark this debut, they have chosen Mona Tougaard as the undisputed star of this campaign. In doing so, Sam Rock captures that constant tension between strength and sensuality that defines the Alaïa universe: clean, direct and deeply physical images.

On this occasion, denim is not treated as a basic garment, but is reinterpreted as a second skin. The fabric is crafted with precision so that structure blends with softness, stiffness gives way to fluidity, and the silhouette hugs the body.

This first collection is the result of over a year of development, testing and research. In Alaïa’s world, simplicity is key to achieving the perfect fit, which means stripping away everything superfluous until only the essentials remain: the cut, the shape and, above all, the attitude.

The collection was produced in Japan, where the denim was treated using the rope-dye technique to achieve depth and durability, whilst hand-washing, over-dyeing and laser treatment add nuances that strike a balance between innovation and tradition.

The collection features a range of silhouettes – bootcut, fit-and-flare, palazzo, round, skinny and straight – with the aim of moving beyond trends and creating timeless pieces that flatter the body.
