The campaign, entitled “Backyard Legends”, is building anticipation for the 2026 FIFA World Cup™.

With just over a month to go until the world’s biggest sporting event kicks off, adidas has decided to launch one of its most ambitious audiovisual projects to date, bringing together a star-studded cast featuring some of the most influential figures from the worlds of sport, music and film. Bad Bunny, Leo Messi, Lamine Yamal, Jude Bellingham, Timothée Chalamet, Trinity Rodman, Pedri, Dembélé and many others bring “Backyard Legends” to life, a story that celebrates the purest origins of the game.

The piece follows Chalamet as he sets out to assemble a team capable of defeating Clive, Ruthie and Isaak: an undefeated trio whose urban legend has endured for decades under a simple yet effective rule: ‘win or go home’. Such is their strength that even legendary figures such as Zinedine Zidane, David Beckham and Alessandro del Piero are said to have fallen to them. A narrative reinforced by the impeccable cameos of Dembélé, Raphinha, Pedri and Florian Wirtz, who offer their own take on the unbeatable trio.

‘Backyard Legends’ is presented as a love letter to street football and that 90s aesthetic that came to define an entire generation, which is why the campaign features key elements such as urban stands, analogue technology, the iconic hairstyles of the era, and a soundtrack brimming with CGI nostalgia. All of this aims to convey a very clear message: legends are forged in backyards.

‘I play the way I do because of where I come from and the people I grew up with,’ says Lamine Yamal.

adidas is gearing up (and getting us ready) for the 2026 FIFA World Cup™, where it will play a leading role as the official match ball supplier and kit supplier for 14 participating national associations.
