Ads on Spotify premium?

For the past few days, a rumour has been running around the internet as if it were a surprise YEEZY drop: Spotify might be sneaking ads even to its Premium users. Yes, you read that right. The service you pay for precisely so you don’t have to listen to ads, allegedly… showing ads? It didn’t take long for the drama to explode.

Twitter was filled with passive-aggressive -and not so passive- threats: ‘Don’t you dare put any ads on my Spotify Premium or I’ll cancel it immediately’, said one user with his finger already on the ‘unsubscribe’ button.

And of course, the outrage was real. Who wants to pay for silence and interruptions? No one. Although the original source of the rumour is still shrouded in smoke (like many Reddit theories at 3am), the echo was so strong that Spotify was forced to come out and speak.

According to Newsweek, some users of the Spotify Community forum claimed to be receiving ads despite having a Premium account. The reason? A one-off bug that has now been fixed. No dark strategies or changes to the terms and conditions. At least, that’s what they say.

For now, your premium subscription remains your safe haven to listen to Bad Bunny without interruptions from detergents or quick loans. But you know how it works: if there’s smoke, the internet burns.

Spotify and Travis Scott have put together a mini-documentary.
