OpenSea may be the digital marketplace of reference in the world of NFTs, but that hasn’t stopped them from falling victim to a phishing attack in which hundreds of tokens worth more than $1.7 million were stolen.
The hackers who provoked this attack have started selling the stolen NFTs on OpenSea itself, eventually reaching more than 2.9 million dollars. This is the first cyber-attack on this type of platform, and although it is no longer active, 17 users were affected.
A total of 254 NFTs were stolen, including some from Bored Ape Yacht Club and Decentraland. The attack has been through phishing, a technique in which a fake email is sent to the user pretending to be from the official platform. When you enter your details, your account is accessed and stolen.
