Fusing tradition and ritual, Aitor Goikoetxea’s “Adarrak” collection conquered Madrid Fashion Week. So much so that the Biscayan designer won the award at the 21st edition of the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Talent.
The Biscayan designer, Aitor Goikoetxea, was the winner of the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Talent with “Adarrak”, within the framework of Allianz Ego at Mercedes-Benz Madrid Fashion Week. A graduate of IED Barcelona and winner of an international ITS Responsible Creativity Award Powered by Allianz, Aitor seeks to ensure that “tradition, craftsmanship and nostalgia are always present in his work”.
Therefore, for his new collection, the 22-year-old designer was inspired by “vulnerability and tradition”, by traditional costumes that are often worn with a sense of “ritual” and that play with the barrier between man and beast. For Aitor, the materials in the collection are everything: the prints, textures and colours create a universe full of nostalgia and tradition.
To present the collection, in addition to a photographic campaign by Jorge Fuster, the designer entrusted the director Valentino R. Sandoli to create a film that would encapsulate the ideas of the collection and which would be screened before the fashion show as a preamble, and as a starting point for the sensations they wanted to transmit.
The film clearly reflects the idea of the rite as a social event and is constructed in a frenetic way to gradually accompany the designer’s universe, ending with a moment of apotheosis climax that identifies perfectly with the garments of the “Adarrak” collection and that spirit where tradition, rite, fear, past and present meet.
