All about ‘Pussy Island’, the provocative film by Zoë Kravitz

The project, titled ‘Pussy Island‘, which was four years in the making, was shot last summer in Mexico, and is now in the midst of post-production. Kravitz’s long-awaited directorial debut tackles, from social satire, issues such as the struggle of the sexes amidst an exotic landscape, which takes as inspiration the wild experiences that, as a woman in the industry, the actress herself has had to experience, as she told Deadline in an interview.

“The title was kind of a joke at first, evoking that place where people would go, bring women, party and hang out. The story evolved into something else, but the title ended up having multiple meanings. And it alludes to this time and place that we claim to no longer be in, in terms of sexual politics […] People are evolving and changing, but there’s still a bad taste in a lot of people’s mouths from past behaviors. It’s a nod to that, but it’s also a really playful film in many ways. I like that the title goes around and has a lot of meaning.”

SINOPSIS

“Pussy Island” follows the story of Frida, a Los Angeles waitress with big ambitions, who at a party crosses paths with a tech mogul named Slater King (played by Channing Tatum) and strikes up a conversation with him. A captivating dialogue that will become the beginning of a relationship that will end up opening the doors to his inner circle of the upper echelons, as well as to attend an exclusive event on an island where he and his elite friends have fun. When he arrives there, the luxury and euphoria begin to fade to give way to sordidness and terror, exposing a series of substantial problems.

CAST

Channing Tatum is the film’s male lead, alongside London-based actress Naomi Ackie, who plays the role of the “young and smart” waitress. They make up an iconic cast that also includes Simon Rex, Christian Slater, Alia Shawkat and Geena Davis, as well as Adria Arjona, Haley Joel Osment, Liz Caribel Sierra, Levon Hawke, Trew Mullen, Saul Williams, Cris Costa and Kyle MacLachlan.

DIRECTION AND PREMIERE

This audiovisual piece, directed by Zoë K., is based on a script written by Kravitz herself and her co-writer of the ‘High Fidelity’ series, E.T. Feigenbaum. However, Channing also had a hand in the script, refining the male character to be “an extremely committed – psychotic possibly – extreme version of myself.”

Finally, it has not yet been revealed when the fiction ‘Pussy Island‘ will be released, but the fact is that the collective expectation around Zoë’s debut is growing.
