All about the engagement ring that Matty Healy gave Gabbriette

Matty Healy, lead singer of The 1975, and model Gabbriette Bechtel went public with their relationship in September 2023. The couple met thanks to Charli XCX. However, it wasn’t until this June when Gabbriette shared a photo on Instagram of her hand with a ring on it during Charli XCX’s concert in New York, confirming her engagement to Matty. She tagged her partner in the post and added in the description: “Marrying The 1975 is too BRAT”.

Last year, Matty Healy faced criticism from the public due to rumours of a relationship with Taylor Swift. A few months later, and after finishing the last leg of his “At Their Very Best” tour, the singer was spotted with Gabbriette. Bechtel and Healy share a similar style, so it came as no surprise that they opted for an unconventional engagement ring: a black diamond. The unique piece features a black diamond in the centre, surrounded by a halo of pavé diamonds, which complements it perfectly.

The diamond in Gabbriette’s ring is estimated to be around 9 carats. Black diamonds, also known as carbon diamonds, have gained popularity among celebrities. They have a composition closer to pure diamonds than coloured diamonds such as yellow, pink or blue. These diamonds have a limited origin and are found only in Brazil and the Central African Republic.
