According to Mark Gurman’s latest Power On newsletter for Bloomberg, the company is aiming to expand its health offerings in its future hardware, and one of the features under consideration is the inclusion of a sensor that will allow it to measure body temperature.
This feature is already present on the Apple Watch Series 8 and Watch Ultra, devices that many users use to track their workouts. Since users often use AirPods while exercising, Gurman notes that a temperature reading through the ear canal is more accurate than on the wrist.
Apple is also exploring the possibility of AirPods Pro functioning as headphones. The company has tapped engineers with experience developing traditional earbuds to boost the capabilities of these earbuds.
While these features look promising, users will have to wait a while to access them, with Gurman describing both functions as potentially “years in the future.”
