Ashley Williams explores the conflict between childhood and adulthood

This season, the British designer dives into a nostalgic and emotional journey to understand the boundaries between teenage escapism and the reality of growing up.

Offering a sharp, melancholic vision of what it means to grow up in a world that seems to resist the passage of time, Ashley Williams recalls childhood with an emotive collection. Silk lace skirts and delicately structured trousers appear to be plucked from an ethereal dream, while pastel prints evoke the softness of hospital sheets and patients’ gowns.

The plastic beads that used to adorn the dolls we played with at school are intermingled with dollhouse jewellery, symbolising the duality between the innocence of childhood and the adult tensions that arise when faced with the fear of responsibility.

Elements already explored in the SS25 collection, such as emotional chaos transformed into everyday objects, now become key details. A printed bag recalls the mix between disorder and beauty; and plastic combs are reinvented as earrings and double barrettes.

The designer also delves into the idea of emotional shelters, where the fear of what is to come is softened by knitted jumpers with extra sleeves that hug the chest, creating a sense of protection.
