One of the most surprising collaborations of the season.
Onitsuka Tiger’s Japanese precision and Versace’s Italian opulence come together for the first time in a collaborative footwear collection that made its debut on the catwalk in Milan.
The project centres on a reinterpretation of the iconic TAI-CHI model, which has now evolved into a silhouette where the brand’s sporting heritage meets the visual language of the Italian fashion house. They have been manufactured at the Onitsuka Innovative Factory – the brand’s new production facility in Tottori Prefecture, in the San’in region – and feature meticulously selected Italian materials.
This dialogue between the two brands is evident in every detail, such as the iconic Onitsuka Tiger side stripes, which are reinforced with double stitching, whilst the Versace aesthetic is incorporated through the Medusa motif, now in the form of studs on the tongue.
The finish on the top adds another layer to the story. A special washing process creates a subtle vintage patina, adding depth and that certain something that ties in with current trends without feeling predictable.
The collection extends beyond trainers to include a range of loafers, also made in Italy, offering a more classic contrast and reinforcing the idea of a balance between Italian craftsmanship and Japanese innovation.
