In order to make sure that all these interesting projects don’t get lost on our Instagram, every month we choose 6 emerging brands and give them their space on HIGHXTAR. Here are the ones for August 2024!
1.Futura by Dionne
Futura is a brand for female warriors, hence bad bitches like Ice Spice, Saweetie or Victoria Monet are fans of the brand. Currently, Dionne is more into retro-futuristic aesthetics for Futura, with tight-fitting, metallic, leather pieces that accentuate the feminine silhouette. If you want to be a real baddie, Futura is definitely the brand to follow.
2. Joao Maraschin
London-based Brazilian designer Joao Maraschin worked for Wales Bonner and JWAnderson before founding his eponymous brand in 2020, focusing on artisanal techniques such as embroidery, crochet and macramé, often in collaboration with social projects. Her collections have caught the attention of prestigious publications such as Vogue Brasil, Vogue Italia and WWD and in September 2022 she even launched a collaboration with MCQ Alexander McQueen. She has now presented her latest collection, ROAD TRIP, at Copenhague Fashion Week and has made quite an impact due to the techniques used and the highlighting of Brazilian craftsmanship.
3. Amy Shehab
Amy Shehab launched her brand as a jewelry line in 2016, inspired by Egyptian culture and her personal style, with versatile pieces for any occasion. Amy leveraged her success on social media and income from her work as an influencer to forge her brand, and as the years have gone on, she has made pieces beyond jewelry. Today, her designs are seen on familiar faces in the fashion world such as Veneda Carter or Bella Hadid.
4. Bent Kahina
BENT KAHINA, Arabic for “daughter of Kahina,” takes its name from the legendary 7th century North African warrior queen, whose spirit inspires the brand in its mission to break the chains of history. Founded by Jora Frantzis and Chaima Mennana, both descendants of the indigenous Berber tribes of Algeria, the brand embodies a strong cultural heritage. In this context, BENT KAHINA is rooted in ancient traditions and fuses them with a new generation of empowered women, creating a proposition that celebrates both their roots and their vision for the future.
5. Vuja Dé
Before founding his brand, Ken Iijima dedicated himself to documenting the vintage and archive fashion scene in Tokyo on YouTube, using this platform to make his creative vision known. Then, in 2018 Vuja Dé Studio came to life and has now arguably established itself as one of the most promising names in today’s streetwear scene. The brand offers a range of designs from technical wear to more casual options such as trench coats, mid-season jackets and chinos suitable for the office environment. Vuja Dé’s vintage-inspired aesthetic reflects a dichotomy between luxury and streetwear, fusing Japanese iconography with vintage references.
6. XI Scorpi
XI Scorpii is a star system located in the constellation Scorpio, but it is also a London-based brand that has all the elements needed to succeed. Its creative director, XIXI, graduated from Central Saint Martins and some well-known faces of the scene have already worn her pieces: Katy Perry, Kehlani, Ayra Starr, Nicky Minaj… Her designs fuse the medieval with the futuristic, and in many occasions the pieces are made of rigid elements that give the sensation of feminine armor.
