The creative duo reimagines the iconic ‘One Star‘ silhouette in three colorways, once again exploring the subcultures of New York City and the non-conformist essence of the skate scene and alternative music of the early 90s. All of these influences are carried over to both the sneakers and the apparel collection to wrap head-to-toe in the spirit of the series.
“The One Star has always connected with the early ’90s punk and alternative artists that I looked up to, whether it was Nirvana, The Smashing Pumpkins or the Beastie Boys, music that people [from Richmond Hill, Queens] aren’t normally supposed to listen to,” says Angelo Baque, noting that including musicians in the campaign became an essential aspect of the collection.
One Star Pro is crafted in powder blue, black and grey suede: three silhouettes with shared features and codes such as a thick ‘Awake NY’ embroidery on the side panel, superimposed over the signature star cutout. The silhouette is completed by a high-shine rubber midsole with a heel badge and thick stripe.
Putting the focus on innovation and performance, the One Star Pro improves upon the original One Star with a skate-modified Converse CONS rubber outsole and a molded CX footbed.
As for the apparel collection, it includes hoodies, rugby jerseys with a large star on the back and graphic tees dyed in the same aesthetic and shades as the shoes.
The Awake NY x Converse One Star Pro collection will go on sale on Awake‘s website and at the brand’s flagship store located on the Lower East Side on October 6.
