Has Demna become a disciple of Juergen Teller?
Balenciaga has opted for a radically simple approach: images captured at Kering’s Paris headquarters by Demna himself with his own iPhone, as if it were a Juergen Teller campaign. This decision, in addition to an obvious cost saving, reinforces today’s imaginary of everyday life in the universe of luxury houses. As if they were images for internal use of the brand, each photo offers a vision stripped of artifice, showing the garments in their purest essence, without makeup or scenery. In some of the lookbook photos, Demna’s finger even appears in the middle of the lens.
The idea was to explore a complete closet, ranging from simple eveningwear to utilitarian uniforms and conceptual pieces for everyday wear. Among the standout pieces are opposing interpretations of everyday garments: from a long, flowing jersey “Cocoon” dress to a fitted, T-shirt-inspired mini-dress. This play of extremes is repeated throughout the collection: impeccable garments versus intentionally worn pieces, voluminous skirts contrasted with micro skirts, and maximalist multi-layered looks versus simpler ones, but with maximum attention to detail.
Suits get reinvented as hooded jacket and trouser ensembles. Coats take on a couture feel with voluminous scarves and caftans inspired by the golden age of Hollywood, but there are also outcasts and more edgy leather jackets. On the other hand, materials and proportions play a key role: technical fabrics are combined with traditional textiles.
Balenciaga also incorporates a collaboration with Lamborghini into the fall 2025 collection, an alliance that celebrates the two brands’ shared passion for technology and futuristic shapes, with pieces that reinterpret the iconography and distinctive lines of Italian supercars. As a preview, an exclusive T-shirt featuring the Lamborghini Temerario 2025 design, limited to 630 units worldwide, has been launched. In addition, the collaboration includes leather jackets, sportswear, jewelry, and special versions of the iconic Rodeo and Hourglass bags, all adorned with details inspired by the iconic car brand.
Footwear, a highlight of the collection, includes ergonomic heels designed in collaboration with Scholl, and 3D molded sneakers that seek the essence of barefoot movement. The bags, meanwhile, reverse traditional designs, being reversible and made of worn leather, or even inspired by Lamborghini car dashboards.
