The Japanese streetwear brand is celebrating its 30th anniversary and also its 20 years of collaboration with adidas. To celebrate, it will release two pairs of adidas Forum 84 Low with a campaign starring NBA player Jalen Green.
The up-and-coming basketball player said he first heard about BAPE in the 2000s through Lil Wayne and has been a big fan ever since: “While I was in the G-League, I tagged BAPE and tried to get the brand’s attention. So, when adidas let me know they wanted me to participate, it was such a surreal moment.”
The essence of BAPE is reflected in the iconic ABC camouflage scattered throughout the sneaker overlays. The two leather looks in green and blue include gold and silver accents respectively; each pair with a special 30th anniversary logo tongue with straps that read “A BATHING APE” and “30” on the dubraes. “I like the green, obviously, but I feel like the blue colorway is one that I could really pop with something.” commented Green. The silhouette also features an off-white midsole atop a colored rubber outsole.
The BAPE x adidas Forum 84 Low “30th Anniversary” will be available at adidas, BAPE and select retailers starting May 20.
