Beyoncé ’s Cowboy Carter tour grosses over $400 million

Following the final Cowboy Carter show in Las Vegas, it has been confirmed that Beyoncé has broken yet another record. With $407.6 million earned across 32 shows, it is now the highest-grossing country music tour, according to data published by USA Today.

The project was born out of Beyoncé’s controversial performance alongside the Dixie Chicks at the 2016 CMA Awards, which sparked openly racist backlash and rejection from parts of the traditional country scene. Years later, Cowboy Carter offers a direct response to that experience. The album references the genre’s history and shines a spotlight on a new generation of artists such as Shaboozey and Brittney Spencer.

Despite its cultural and commercial impact, neither Beyoncé nor Shaboozey received nominations at the 2024 CMA Awards. Meanwhile, her Super Bowl halftime performance drew 27 million views, compared to the CMAs’ 6 million.

Midway through the tour, the GRAMMYs announced that the country category would be split in two, Best Traditional Country Album and Best Contemporary Country Album. The decision came after ongoing debate over whether Cowboy Carter should be considered a legitimate country album.

In early 2025, Beyoncé shared an Instagram post explaining that the album was a response to the criticism she faced and an exploration of the genre’s roots.

Beyoncé has not made direct statements about being overlooked for awards, but the tour’s attendance figures, sales and global reach make Cowboy Carter a case the country music industry can no longer ignore.
