Bilbao BBK Live 2024 announces its full line-up

Bilbao BBK Live unveils the artists for its next edition, to be held on 11, 12 and 13 July at Kobetamendi. If artists such as Arcade Fire, Jungle, Massive Attack, The Prodigy, Underworld, Khruangbin or Parcels have already topped the bill, a new batch of talent completes a line-up of 2024 that represents an intergenerational journey through the sounds and icons that have marked recent times.

Joining the line-up is one of the most special and iconic artists in history: Grace Jones. Born in Jamaica and raised in New York, Grace is a symbol of the most extravagant underground, a regular at the legendary Studio 54 and constantly pivoting between film, fashion and music, Grace Jones will be at Bilbao BBK Live presenting monumental dance hits such as Slave to the Rhythm or Corporate Cannibal.

The revelation of the new voices on the bill invites you to explore the soundscape of dream pop and shoegaze by the hand of two masters in the field: on Thursday, the legendary French band AIR will be at Bilbao BBK Live 2024 playing their iconic album ‘Moon Safari’, a unique fusion of electronic sounds and sensual, sophisticated and emotive atmospheres; and on Saturday the British icons Slowdive, creators of the most enveloping sonic gears and the most intense dreamlike climaxes.

THURSDAY 11TH JULY

Massive Attack, The Prodigy, Folamour (A/V), Cymande, Death from Above 1979 and Sen Senra are some of the names that have already been announced for the opening day of Bilbao BBK Live. The first day will range from acid sounds to pop melodies, with the addition of the sophisticated downtempo electronica of the French band AIR. Los Planetas will also be at the event, in a special concert celebrating the 30th anniversary of their emblematic ‘Super 8’, where they will review the crucial path they have traced in the Spanish indie rock scene.

From the lysergic trance, Orbit will provide a nostalgic sound with his characteristic autotune vocals, and the fusion of electronic and acoustic will come from Mezerg, who became known thanks to his improvised home videos. Ireland’s NewDad are not to be left out either, in a foray into alternative rock that dances between the dark and the dreamy.

The national representation also welcomes new additions, from the fast and brutal Madrid pop band El Buen Hijo to the shoegaze hopefuls Dharmacide. On this first day we will meet Nunatak from Murcia with their epic folk rock, the extraterrestrial psychedelia of Martín de Marte from Zarauza, and the Bilbao collective Nexo Malito, with their founder ALTA and CRRDR, guest of honour from Bogotá and master of raves and Latin sounds.

FRIDAY 12TH JULY

The new names for the second day of Bilbao BBK Live are led by the undisputed Grace Jones, who joins the already announced Underworld, Khruangbin, Parcels, Jordan Rakei and Ezra Collective, and are once again distinguished by their carefully connected international and national offer. From Germany comes MEUTE, a range of musicians and live instruments, ready to spread their energy in the great party that is their live show. We will also have the multifaceted Albert Pla: singer-songwriter, writer, musician, comedian, author… there is nothing that the Catalan who has starred in La Mesias can’t resist and who will present his show Rumbagenarios at the festival.

Also not missing out on Bilbao will be the Catalan band Standstill, who after disbanding in 2015 are back on stage at Bilbao BBK Live; nor will new talents such as Aiko El Grupo, revolution multipliers with their riotous and tremendously young spirit, or Karavana, an essential band to follow. The second day of the festival will also give us the Cordovan María José Llergo, who will stop time with her ULTRABELLEZA or the Italian singer-songwriter Daniela Pes. Ralphie Choola, iconic celebrity, singer and performer Samantha Hudson, the folkloric dj Oro Jondo with his gas station music and the king of makina Parkineos will join the party.

Eusko label artists are part of the festival’s DNA, which is why the Pamplona-based Melenas and their psychedelic garage pop sound, the energetic EZEZEZ, Silitia from Lekeitia and S T R, unique in their scene, could not be missing.

SATURDAY 13 JULY

Joining the already announced Arcade Fire, Jungle, Alvvays, Floating Points, Noname or El Columpio Asesino on their farewell tour on Saturday are the essential Slowdive, with their recent Everything Is Alive; the most promising band from the North of Ireland according to the BBC, CHALK, creators of a DIY mix infused with techno and punk; or flying in from Argentina, the overflowing passion of Zoe Gotusso and her soundscapes rich in emotions and textures. Iceland’s Kiasmos will bring the perfect balance between ambient and electropop, and on the Anglo-Saxon side, the UK’s most viral duo Good Neighbours will bring their acclaimed single Home (and much more).

In the national line-up, the garageros Mujeres will pollinate Kobetamendi with their exaltation of rock and friendship, Barcelona’s Boye will bring his hedonistic anthems to the festival, and the Basque band Oki Moki will present their characteristic lo-fi pop punk from the town of Guetaria. Not to be missed is Bitxeando, Bilbao’s most successful indie tardeo with its godmother Ines Hernand at the helm along with its founder, DJ Daniless, accompanied by David Van Bylen with his impossible mixes; thus adding different layers to a rich and diverse state line-up.

These were the first artists confirmed for Bilbao BBK Live 2024.
