After a few days of closure, the Audemars Piguet boutique in New York has reopened its doors in a new and surprising style, after Cactus Jack moved in and imposed its aesthetic codes both inside and outside the shop. Is collaboration coming? We’re sure it is.
It was the perfect opportunity for the brand and record company founded by Travis Scott to unveil their new collaboration. Guests from both brands got a sneak preview of the Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar “Cactus Jack” Limited Edition, along with an exclusive collection of fashion and accessories that will be sold exclusively on Travis Scott’s website, with part of the proceeds going to a charity project or cause of Travis Scott’s choice.
As part of their partnership, Cactus Jack and Audemars Piguet are launching a new limited edition Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar Skeletonised in “chocolate” brown ceramic. For the occasion, the two brands have also worked on a fashion and accessories collection, including hoodies, T-shirts, jackets, pyjamas, shorts, caps and more, available exclusively on the shop.travisscott.com website. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of this collection will be donated to a charity or cause of Travis Scott’s choice.
“For me, the is the ultimate combination of engineering, fashion, technology and design; a harmony of precision, craftsmanship and perfect timing. I approached this collaboration as if sampling or initiating a rhythm, drawing from the classics for inspiration and innovating to propel the creation into the future. The result is incredible, a true first for the iconic Royal Oak. The fact that it’s my friend François’ final project as CEO of AP makes it even more epic: we’re sending an incredibly powerful farewell message… VAMOOOOOOOOSSSSSSSS,” explains Travis Scott.
«THE AP CHOCOLATE» by Travis Scott
For the first time, Audemars Piguet presents a Royal Oak model in brown ceramic, an emblematic colour of Cactus Jack. This lightweight, scratch-resistant material is present on both the 41 mm case and the bracelet pins. “The chocolate AP”, as Travis Scott likes to call it on his latest album, features white gold hexagonal screws and a sapphire dial revealing the skeletonised movement, Calibre 5135, which combines rhodium-plated components with rose gold tones.
Numerous design elements refer to the graphic motifs of Cactus Jack. The Audemars Piguet design team has specially designed the typography of the calendar and week indications based on a hand-drawn model by Travis Scott. Even the hand on the day of the week sub-dial is in the shape of his logo. The most obvious nod, however, is in the design of the moon phase at 6 o’clock.
The usual representation of the earth satellite has been replaced by the sewn-on Cactus Jack’s mouth, which has a blue luminescent coating that glows in the dark. By way of contrast, the other indications on the calendar, with the exception of the week indication, feature a green luminescent material that produces a unique luminous effect in the dark. A new textured calfskin strap makes its debut for the occasion, while the rose gold folding clasp is engraved with the double signature “Audemars Piguet” and “Travis Scott”.
The sapphire and brown ceramic caseback is engraved with “Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar”, “Limited Edition of 200 Pieces” and “Utopia is a state of mind” in reference to Travis Scott’s latest album. This mention is also stamped on one of the strap loops. The skeletonised and stamped 22-carat pink gold oscillating weight visible on the case back is decorated with satin-brushed surfaces and polished edges, and is engraved with the double signature “Audemars Piguet” and “Cactus Jack”. The Cactus Jack logo is present in the centre of the oscillating weight.
