In the wake of Spanish Leather, the artist has embarked on a new creative phase without entirely breaking away from the unique world that defined his debut.
‘Calypso’ is a song born on the road. Written during his latest tour – and performed live in cities such as New York, Los Angeles and Buenos Aires – the track captures the emotional weight accumulated along the way: farewells, vertigo, transformation. That fleeting moment between what is ending and what has not yet begun.
Produced by Carter Long and Jasper Harris, the track retains the signature sound of Guitarricadelafuente whilst introducing a lighter rhythm, evoking a sense of freedom that resonates with the song’s sense of transition.
The title, of course, is no accident. Inspired by the myth of Calypso – the nymph who kept Odysseus by her side by promising him eternity – it reinterprets this classic tale as a contemporary metaphor. The idea is to linger in beauty, in the familiar, and in that perfect moment that seems never to want to end. But, just as in the original story, the inevitable choice is to move on.
