The Cambridge Dictionary has updated its digital edition with over 6,000 new terms, including “skibidi” and “delulu“. This addition highlights how expressions originating on social media and viral platforms are becoming part of everyday vocabulary.
“Skibidi”, popularised by the viral YouTube series Skibidi Toilet, is defined as a word with flexible usage. It can mean something positive, negative, or have no meaning at all, functioning simply as a shared joke. Its inclusion in the dictionary shows how the ephemeral and absurd can find a place in official language records.
In contrast, “delulu”, an abbreviation of delusional, refers to the choice to believe in things that are not real. Its circulation on platforms like TikTok or X has turned it into an ironic and self-referential term, used with full awareness of its exaggeration.
Both entries are part of a list that includes expressions such as “tradwife”, “red flag”, “mouse jiggler” or “work wife”, terms that illustrate the way social, digital, and cultural elements intertwine in everyday vocabulary.
