Camellia stars Chanel FW23

Inspired by the house’s most emblematic flower, Virginie Viard once again shows us her vision of the contemporary Chanel woman in FW23.

Inspired by the house’s most emblematic flower, Virginie Viard once again shows us her vision of the contemporary Chanel woman in FW23.

Chanel has presented its Fall/Winter 2023 collection in Paris starring one of the brand’s most iconic hallmarks: the camellia. “The camellia is more than a theme, it is an eternal code of the House,” explained Viard. “It reassures me and is familiar to me, I like its softness and its strength.” The creative director continues on her passionate path of modernizing the Chanel woman, while still including iconic references in her collections and paying tribute to the maison’s history.

Subtly reminiscent of the 60s and in a palette of white, black and gray with soft pink touches, the collection features off-the-shoulder coats, contemporary biker-style shorts, masculine jackets, floral dresses…

The camellia is present in the prints and in some three-dimensional shapes on the lapels of the leather garments, on the collars of the trench coats… In addition to the huge flower in the middle of the catwalk and other small ones on the seats occupied by the guests. Viard emphasizes the waist with belts in the long skirt and sweater looks, and bets on overlays in this new line.

“The faded colors, the dark pink, the handcrafted pieces, the sixties and seventies touches, a certain English air, the comfortable and enveloping coats, the authentic materials, make the collections more real, and also more charming,” explains the creative director, who with the passing of the collections feels more and more comfortable creating for the elegant and feminine fashion house.
