Manuel Molina, founder of Camisas Manolo, was introduced to tailoring by Waldo while studying at the Instituto Europeo di Design in Madrid. Interested in Japanese design and the Antwerp Six, Molina became hooked on the craft from the very first encounter.
Tradition and modernity at Camisas Manolo
Founded in 2019, Camisas Manolo combines technical tradition with a modern visual approach. Its shirts feature boxy and cropped cuts, open collars, double sleeves, and knitted linen, reinterpreting the rules of classical tailoring.
The presentation of the collections also breaks with convention. Molina collaborates with artists to transform the shirts into mosaics or paintings, or displays them in layers, inside dry-cleaning bags or printed on black-and-white paper, emphasising that the approach is different.
The references for Molina include everyday objects, people, and nature. After graduating, he worked in various historic workshops in Madrid, learning from figures such as Joaquín Fernández Pratz, a third-generation tailor.
The brand maintains attention to made-to-measure, highlighting that everything is hand-cut and that this system allows the client to be listened to and a unique shirt to be designed. Details such as mother-of-pearl finishes or double sleeves combine tradition with shapes inspired by subcultures.
Camisas Manolo has also developed collaborations with historic workshops and contemporary brands, such as Paloma Wool and Hai. Currently, it is stocked in stores such as Isetan in Tokyo, Mohawk General Store in Los Angeles, Bassal in Spain, and Solar MTP in France.
Molina prioritises deep relationships with a few distributors over mass expansion.
