Cardi B has sparked a heated conversation on X, facing criticism over the use of the label “light skin” to describe herself. The rapper defends herself, explaining that the diversity in the Dominican Republic makes describing her skin tone much more complex. Furthermore, the artist called the argument of associating racial classification with nationality “automatically invalid,” pointing out the incoherence in such logic.
Cardi B rejected accusations suggesting that “light skin” is a term reserved exclusively for black people with a paler complexion. In a forceful response, the artist stressed that skin in her native country covers a wide range: “Dominicans are diverse in terms of skin color: dark, brown, tan, light, white… What am I supposed to say when I describe my tone? Should I say that I am Dominican skinned?”
