A strong start to the year rooted in Mexican identity.

2026 kicks off powerfully for Carín León, who releases “La Morrita”, a new single in collaboration with Xavi, one of the most prominent figures of the new generation of Mexican performers. Now available on all digital platforms, the track serves as a clear statement of identity. Huapango, irreverence and romantic conquest come together through a thoroughly contemporary lens.

“La Morrita” was written by Carín León and Xavi alongside Alex Hernández, Fabio Gutiérrez, Luis Mexia and Édgar Barrera, who also produced the track. The result is a fiery, high-energy huapango. Its rhythm underpins a playful narrative that blends traditional courtship with modern references such as Instagram, flowers and designer handbags.

Rather than breaking with tradition, Carín and Xavi update it. The song preserves the essence of huapango while dressing it in modern lyrics and a catchy chorus. This approach positions the track as an instant dancefloor anthem. At the same time, it reinforces Carín León’s role as one of the leading global ambassadors of Mexican music, capable of taking traditional rhythms to international stages without losing authenticity.

In step with his recent discography

The release of “La Morrita” arrives less than a month after the double launch of Chapayeka and Chapayeka (Puro Chucky). With these projects, the Hermosillo-born artist continued his now traditional Christmas gift to fans.

In addition, the single marks the beginning of a year that promises to be pivotal for Carín León. The singer is currently nominated for the 2026 GRAMMY Awards, where he will seek his second consecutive win in the category of Best Mexican Music Album (Including Tejano) for Palabra de To’s (Seca). In 2025, he earned his first GRAMMY thanks to the acclaimed Boca Chueca, Vol. 1.

Carín León closes a historic year with Chapayeka, a live album recorded in Hermosillo.
