The Danish designer continues her love affair with ASICS Sportstyle and, this time, reinterprets the GEL-KAYANO 20 silhouette through a lens that fuses ethereal elegance with technical precision. First presented during her FW25 runway show, the new drop is a natural extension of her ethos: soft functionality, bold femininity, and an obsession with detail.
Inspired by a 2005 marathon tabi silhouette she found in the ASICS archives, Bahnsen reimagines the design with a half-tongue construction, asymmetrical lacing, and signature floral appliqués. All encapsulated in a vision where sportiness meets the most poetic craftsmanship.
“This version takes the original Mary Jane we created with ASICS and takes it to a new place: more sculptural, more contrasting,” explains Bahnsen. The asymmetrical lacing of the original tabi takes on new life with its signature flowers transformed into tufts of lace. A piece that, more than a sneaker, is a statement piece.
The silhouette also amplifies the floral aesthetic of the cage, which is already part of the designer’s DNA: contrasting overlays, translucent mesh, reflective stitching, and metallic details combine in two color versions: “Olive” and “Vanilla/Pure Silver.” Nature and futurism coexist in perfect balance.
The pre-release will be on May 2 exclusively on Cecilie Bahnsen’s website, while the global drop will arrive on May 16 through ASICS.
