Chanel haute couture through Sofia Coppola

CHANEL HAUTE COUTURE is a previously unpublished book by the filmmaker and cultural muse.

The iconic French fashion house continues to write its history, this time with the help of Sofia Coppola. Together, they offer a volume that traces a visual journey through its Haute Couture from the early 20th century to the present day. The project, published by Editions 7L in collaboration with CHANEL and the film director’s publishing label, Important Flowers.

It is a kind of narrative collage that combines iconic photographs, unpublished sketches, backstage snapshots and archival documents that define the aesthetic evolution of the fashion house founded by Gabrielle Chanel.

The relationship between Coppola and CHANEL dates back to when she was a teenager, when, at the age of fifteen, she did her summer internship at the Maison‘s design studio in Paris, an experience that would mark the beginning of an unbreakable creative bond. True to her minimalist sensibility and cinematic vision, Sofia translates CHANEL‘s DNA into a 450-page visual narrative.

From Gabrielle to Karl Lagerfeld and Virginie Viard, CHANEL HAUTE COUTURE brings together muses, models and friends, portrayed by some of the most influential photographers of each decade. Designed by Anamaria Morris for Joseph Logan Design, it is now available globally.
