From made in China to made in Ripollet. Shanghai Jingqingrong Garment opens its first production plant in the Barcelona town of Ripollet. The group works for textile giants such as Uniqlo and H&M and will invest 3 million euros in setting up this factory. In recent years, several foreign manufacturers have set up in Spain, although most have done so with design teams rather than industrial plants.
“It is no coincidence that foreign companies such as Shanghai Jingqingrong Garment have decided to begin their international expansion strategy in Catalonia: one of the most industrialised territories in Europe and one of the main gateways to the continent,” said the Catalan Minister of Enterprise and Employment, Roger Torrent i Ramió. “Chinese companies have invested more than 1 billion euros in Catalonia in the last five years with projects that have led to the creation of more than 2,000 jobs.
