Christian Rex van Minnen launches new prints ‘Rainbow Bridge’

Christian Rex Van Minnen’s canvases of absurdist motifs revel in the grotesque, the violent and the supernatural, and sometimes display a strange beauty. Many of his subjects, riddled with sores and pustules, are reminiscent of horror movie monsters and grotesque toxic waste, while his neon-coloured floral arrangements are encrusted with decaying skulls.

Minnen juxtaposes his decrepit and decadent figures with a motif of gaily painted jelly beans that dangle from the dead flowers, adhere to the humanoid heads and function as a playful and ironic counterpoint to his macabre paintings. His paintings draw inspiration from an artistic lineage that ranges from Dutch vanitas to the work of the magical realist painter Ivan Albright.

In collaboration with Avant Arte, van Minnen will launch a new project linked to his recent exhibition La Luz Atrapada which was recently shown at Veta Galeria in Madrid. Entitled Rainbow Bridge it is based on the new series of prints where Minen creates his own trompe l’oeil illusion. The catalyst? A question posed by his son, “Dad, why don’t you paint something beautiful today?”

Rainbow Bridge is a UV pigment print on 410 gsm Somerset tub-sized radiant white paper, finished with a matte varnish silkscreen stamp and high-gloss varnish highlights. For those looking to purchase, the edition will be limited to a 24-hour period, to be released framed and unframed on November 29 at 7:30 a.m. PT.

Under the splendour of the Renaissance city of Florence, Ferragamo presents a unique dialogue between two generations of creators.
