This new work comes on the heels of the announcement that the band are planning their last album for 2025, marking a pivotal stage in their career. Speaking to BBC Radio 2’s Jo Whiley in 2021, Chris Martin shared: ’Our last proper album will be out in 2025, and after that we’ll probably do some touring. Maybe we’ll do some collaborations, but the Coldplay catalogue, so to speak, will end then.’
Speaking to Apple Music’s Zane Lowe recently, Martin stressed the importance of limiting his output to 12 albums. ‘It’s essential to maintain that standard. There are only 12 and a half Beatles albums. Our heroes have left a limited legacy, and that elevates the quality of each song. To make one of them stand out is almost a challenge, and that’s exciting. While we could settle, we continue to strive for improvement.
Since its release, ‘Moon Music’ has garnered critical acclaim. Rolling Stone describes it as ‘intergalactically ambitious’, noting its ‘spacious, emotionally boundless musicality’. NME has also celebrated it with a four-star review, highlighting ‘the power of music to weather life’s storms’.
