One more season of despair at the entrance of the KidSuper show. Thousands of people accumulate at the Place de L’Odéon to see what Colm Dillane has prepared this season. Again, an odyssey to get into the show. Almost an hour after chaos at the gates, we managed to get into the Theater. We were about to see the play “How to have an idea”, Colm’s most ambitious and difficult project to date, said by himself.
The play conceived and written by Colm showcases his ingenuity through his unique artistry and imagination. Dillane delves into his personal reflection on creativity, originality and recognition. He is offering a glimpse into his mind in the creative process of an idea. A visit to which he invites us by guiding us through his own aural orifice. KidSuper’s travels into his brain where he enters into conversations with different voices in his head, among which – in a completely ingenious way – was his mother, Jeanne.
“I never got good advice from someone who didn’t take risks” Colm pronounces in the soliloquy of his play. One that masterfully reproduces KidSuper’s playbook: art, colors, prints, collages on everything. A set of pieces going from classic streetwear to his now iconic animated tailoring and coats.
To bring his vision to life, Dillane collaborated with several artists. Set designer Thierry Dreyfus, French-American theater company The Big Funk, choreographer Leo Walk and dance company La Marche Bleue helped Colm with this idea.
It’s true that last night’s KidSuper show didn’t make the collection stand out (you could barely see it), but the originality of the experiment is, once again, undeniable. When we’ve already seen it all at Fashion Weeks, Colm Dillane makes going to see a runway show something still inspiring. His ideas are quite eye-opening; something worth witnessing. That’s why thousands of people throng the doors of his shows every season. Let’s see what Colm’s next brilliant idea is.
