After an apparent show of punk and gothic aesthetics, the designer and founder of Comme Des Garçons, Rei Kawakubo, established an artistic map of deconstructed forms based on the ugliness, to launch an enigmatic message: that behind the dark there is beauty. That’s what she made clear after the parade of his AW19 collection.
Known for making pieces that meet with art and architecture, and always blurring the boundaries between what is for men and what is for women, the Japanese artist showed us a collection that followed this very peculiar line of hers. But this time sticking to a strict script that has encompassed the all-in-black and decadent tone.
Crosses, uneven black make-up, fishnet stockings, many openings and all dark are the details that make up the pieces in the AW 19 collection by Comme Des Garçons.
All this has included the public in a game of reading between lines and individual perception in which they were supposed to see the beauty of this black show.
