Mercedes-Benz Fashion Talent reveals the names of the eight candidates who will take part in the competition.
The finishing touch to the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Madrid catwalk will be the awarding of the prize for the best Talent, which will take place on Sunday 11 April 2021.
For the second consecutive edition, the winning firm will receive a cash prize of 3,000 euros to promote and develop its brand.
Guillermo Décimo, Corsicana, Rubearth, Reparto Studio, Sergio Villasante, Velásquez, Georgiela Studio and Montenegro make up the list of the 8 selected designers who will be parading during the MBFTalent.
Mercedes-Benz Fashion Talent has now been running for seventeen editions, rewarding the talent and creativity of young Spanish designers. In this way, the competition continues with its defense of ethical and sustainable fashion; an essential requirement when selecting the 8 candidates who will parade on Sunday 11 April; a day that will put the finishing touch to the great fashion event in our country.
Through their Autumn/Winter 2021-22 collections, the selected creators explore how to contribute to a more sustainable future, either by the materials chosen or by the production models used. Among their proposals, we find recycled fabrics, as well as different techniques such as upcycling; patchwork and tie dye to give a second life to old garments. Once again, local production has become another of the mainstays of the event, where craftsmanship and tradition merge with the innovative character of all the candidates.
It will be the edition of MBFTalent with the largest presence of male brands to date, a true reflection of the boom in men’s fashion.
In this new edition, a total of eight firms will be parading on the young designers’ platform at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Madrid, and only one of them will be able to win the coveted prize.
Among the young talents selected are three men’s collections, four women’s collections and one mixed collection, which will combine men’s and women’s looks. The young man from Burgos, Guillermo Décimo, will present his collection “Queen of the night”, full of luxury, glamour and extravagance; followed by Paula Currás, founder of the Spanish firm Corsicana, who reinvents the classics through a timeless vision. The programme continues with Rubearth, by the designer Gabriel Nogueiras, who creates unique pieces from textile waste; this will be his second participation in this event.
The firm REPARTOStudio will show its collection “Figurantes”, in honour of the commonplace, with humour and a lot of melodrama. Galician designer Sergio Villasante will present “Zebras in London? Why not?” a men’s line, with the collaboration of local seamstresses and artisans. Mateo Velásquez, will show us his first catwalk show with his eponymous brand Velásquez; in which the revision of garments, leather and gender fluidity will be the protagonists.
The next candidate is Georgina José García, timeless garments with avant-garde silhouettes and shapes define her brand Georgiela Studio; whose latest collection we were able to see at the EGO Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Madrid 2020 Showroom. Finally, the Sevillian Nicolás Montenegro who, after working for major fashion brands such as Max Mara, Francesco Scognamiglio Couture, Yolancris and Dolce&Gabbana, launches his personal project Montenegro with which he exudes sophistication, sensitivity and elegance.
