This is not the first time that Daniel Arsham’s work has made an appearance at Paris Fashion Week. The artist already designed with Kim Jones for Dior’s SS20 collection, but this is his first solo presentation.
For Objects IV Life third volume, at Galerie Perrotin in Paris, Daniel Arsham has conceived a performative installation that creates a link to his own universe of OBJECTS IV LIFE. Daniel Arsham himself punches plaster sculptures to reveal a series of denim pieces underneath.
In this way, seemingly solid works, sculpted in the form of Objects IV Life, come to life in the form of denim pieces, and open up to reveal jackets hidden inside. Next, the performative act gives way to cotton pieces, denim jackets and baggy jeans, essential elements of the brand.
As new features, fabrics are introduced including Casentino wool, which is presented in a double-zip jacket, an oversized collar and a fleece vest. Hand-washed and hand-finished cotton takes the form of an ensemble, as well as technical outerwear, such as recycled down jackets and coats with cotton shells.
It is to be admired how Daniel Arsham manages to turn the act of destroying into an act of creation itself. Celebrating the (de)construction and timeless quality of the materials, each piece in the collection is complete with its owner’s use.
