The eternal appeal of the Greek goddess Aphrodite, symbol of beauty and femininity, is the inspiration for David Koma Resort 2024. The designer captures the characteristic feminine strength of his universe through the iconic divinity, with a collection steeped in mythology and aquatic symbolism.
Born from the foam of the sea as the goddess of the ocean that she is, Aphrodite’s close relationship with water is interpreted in the use of transparencies and the fish motif throughout the collection. A collection that runs through the juxtapositions that exist in the brand’s DNA. The use of the usual black comes with new colors like sea green and pastel pink, with hints of denim.
Sophisticated fabrics in transparency merge with sequins in crop tops and mermaid style skirts with elongated tails that highlight the feminine silhouette. Alongside this ethereal transparency, shearling appears in pastel colors and patent black in the form of oversized jackets and scarves. On the other hand, the iconic biker jacket returns in metallic leather, paired with oversized, tailored chrome leather pants. Traditional masculine tailoring appears as a structured jacket with a cropped back and a sheer fishtail skirt that reaches the ground.
The fish motif, the quintessential symbol of Aphrodite, features in details seen on several garments in the collection. In the form of plexiglass mirrors or black crystal embroidery, these animals adorn the body, giving it a new dimension. Koi carp in iridescent crystal envelop the body with fluidity; tropical fish are colorfully printed on black silk mesh dresses.
Organic wave-inspired shapes play out in 3D sliding chrome swirls that create dynamic cuts at the hip and neckline. Meanwhile, drop-shaped cutouts enhance the harmonious connection to the aquatic world. They are hanging in metallic rings that cascade over jeans, satin skirts and suits. Dynamic gathers, seen at the waist of exaggerated skirts, recall ancient Greek statues.
David Koma’s signature footwear receives a seasonal update with the addition of crystal-encrusted high-heeled sandals. Knee-high boots with metallic toe caps appear in seasonal colors: metallic pastel pink and mint, and silver. Meanwhile, thigh-high boots come in a wide, loose silhouette in classic matte black nappa leather and patent leather.
