Through the website dedicated to this iconic dog, the family wanted to pay a last tribute to the protagonist of one of the biggest memes in recent Internet history: ‘Today, 24 May, at 7:50 am, I fell into a deep sleep. My last day was just like all the others. I ate rice, drank a lot of water and watched from the window as birds sang and soft light came into our home’.
According to the Know Your Meme platform, where we can find out the origin of each and every one of the memes that have gone viral on the different social networks, the dog became famous in February 2010 after the Japanese teacher Atsuko Sato published several photos of the animal she had just rescued on her personal blog. Among all of them is one in which a young Kabosu can be seen sitting on a sofa while looking sideways at the camera with her eyebrows raised.
From then on, the photo of the dog began to become known on platforms such as Reddit and, above all, Tumblr, where it ended up rising to stardom after thousands of users commented on this mythical photo. As a result of this success, a second meme emerged known as Ironic Doge, which was used to give ironic responses to the most everyday situations based on photographs of this animal retouched with various editing programmes. In this way, Kabosu ended up becoming an Internet legend.
