Belgian designer Ann Demeulemeester has been awarded the title of Baroness by King Philippe of Belgium. The honour forms part of the country’s National Day, celebrated on 21 July, which recognises citizens who have made outstanding contributions in various fields.
The award acknowledges her artistic career and her key role in promoting Belgian fashion on an international scale. Demeulemeester is one of the Antwerp Six, the influential group of designers who reshaped Belgian fashion in the late 20th century.

Each country has its own ways of recognising outstanding individuals. In the United Kingdom, honours such as the Order of the British Empire are awarded; in France, the Order of Arts and Letters; and in Spain, distinctions like the Gold Medal for Merit in the Fine Arts or the Order of Isabella the Catholic.
Her latest collection is available on the official Ann Demeulemeester website.
