Presented last March at Paris Fashion Week, Dior’s AW23/24 collection designed by Maria Grazia Chiuri once again took centre stage at the repeat show held in Shenzhen (China).
For the creative director, each collection is a blank piece of paper on which to reflect on the relationship between clothing, the human body and fashion. In her latest proposal, Chiuri worked on this reflection while delving into the history of French style to pay tribute to three important cultural figures: Catherine Dior, Édith Piaf and Juliette Gréco. Each of these unique protagonists managed to subvert the feminine stereotypes implanted in post-war society.
Dior’s AW23-24 collection thus maintained the feminist spirit of these figures by adopting a strong yet fragile character, where historic floral motifs were reimagined and primary colours took centre stage. Tartan fabrics adorned coats, jackets and straight skirts, while poplin was at its most powerful thanks to metallic threads.
In keeping with its close historical relationship with China, a country praised by Monsieur Dior since 1948, when he designed a look christened Shanghai, the fashion house held an exclusive ‘repeat show’ at the Sea World Culture and Arts Center in Shenzhen, where a spellbinding spectacle took place.
