Sónar Lisboa will return for another year in the heart of the Portuguese capital from 22 to 24 March, generating a nucleus of energy in which diverse sounds of global electronica will collide.

Now, the festival that fuses music, innovation and creativity has just unveiled its schedule, announcing an immersive installation by the multi-disciplinary art collective Zabra Collective, divided into three parts. Entitled ‘LIMBIC LANDMARKS’ it evokes not only physical geography, but also the emotional landmarks that shape our understanding of the world.

The Pavilhão Carlos Lopes will be resounding with the sounds and sets of such scene references as Paul Kalkbrenner, Sevdaliza, Tiga & Hudson Mohawke presenting ‘Love Minus Zero’, Shygirl presenting ‘Club Shy’, Branko and Oneohtrix Point Never; and with DJ sets from Bonobo, Eliza Rose, 2manydjs with Éclair Fifi & Erol Alkan, Helena Hauff b2b IMOGEN, Vanyfox, VHOOR, Nia Archives and many more.

Another new feature of the festival is the SonarCashless system, which will be free of charge this year. Festival-goers will be able to charge credit via their smartphones or at any of the festival’s SonarCashless points.

FROM DAY TO NIGHT

Sónar by Night kicks off on Friday 22 March with an innovative and captivating show by Sevdaliza, whose recent work uses AI to question preconceived ideas about gender and identity. Another highly anticipated live performance is that of Tiga & Hudson Mohawke, who will present their acclaimed album L’Ecstasy, a journey through the history of house and techno by two masters of dance music.

On Saturday 23 March, experimentation becomes fervour on the three stages of Sónar by Day. Talented producer Oneohtrix Point Never is no stranger to Sónar, completing the circle between innovation and nostalgia, while TOMMY CASH provokes and entertains in equal parts with his trap and hyperpop mashups. A love of melancholic modular synths and mutant arpeggios unites Perel and Wata Igarashi with Dresden, perfectly setting the stage for the acclaimed live performance of the most euphoric techno: Paul Kalkbrenner.

On Sunday 24 March, ravers will once again gather for the second and final round of Sónar by Day. With a lineup co-curated by local legend BRANKO’s Enchufada label, Sunday promises to be an unrivalled celebration of contemporary dance music styles from around the world. Following her recent eponymous EP, pop icon Shygirl presents her new dancefloor-focused live show ‘Club Shy’. Australian-born, Lisbon-based CC:DISCO! will dig into their suitcase of funky house weapons and Grammy-nominated atmospheric dance legend Bonobo will take us on a trip around the world with a rare DJ set.

In addition, the full schedules for all shows have been released and are available at sonarlisboa.pt.
