Disney and Pixar introduce their first non-binary character

Disney and Pixar’s new film, Elemental, includes its first non-binary character.

According to Ava Kai Hauser, the voice behind Lake in the film, her character has the pronouns “they/them.” “BIG ANNOUNCEMENT,” she tweeted. “I got to play Pixar’s first non-binary character! Meet Lake!”

The news was shared on the same day as the film’s release. “I voice Lake in the new movie #Elemental,” Hauser shared. “I’m seeing it in theaters tonight with my friends, so you can see it in theaters too if you wanna see them.” The good news came as a surprise for the LGBTQIA+ community from Disney and Pixar, who will continue to move forward with their representation.
